Hotel and Event Management (English bachelor)

Hotel and Event Management at Tio University of Applied Sciences

Welcome to the world of top-class hotels and five-star restaurants, festivals, sports events and conventions. Hotel and Event Management: the classic hotel school combined with event management.

Will you be the manager of the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam or the Hilton in New York? Or an event expert organising Tomorrowland? Take the first step with the Hotel and Event Management programme! Hospitality is all about creating an experience. Put yourself in your guest’s shoes in order to make a stay or an event a great success and rely on your professional knowledge and skills in the field of management, organisation and e-commerce.

The sector

Leisure is big business; from visit to a festival to spending a nice weekend at a luxury hotel. The tourism and recreation sector is a 82-billion-euro industry in The Netherlands. Last year more dan 19 million foreign tourists visited The Netherlands, and this number will increase in the years to come. The Netherlands is also the leading nation in Europe when it comes to the number of conventions hosted here. Websites such as Booking.com have created a strong demand for professionals with knowledge of e-commerce. In other words, this is a sector with plenty of future potential!

BA in 3 or 4 years

The Hotel and Event Management programme educates you for the professional competence level in Hotel Management in three or four years. The Hotel school degree allows you to use the internationally acknowledged title of Bachelor of Arts (BA). Also, you can earn your Associate degree for this programme in just 2 years.

Small classes

You attend theoretical lectures in groups of no more than circa 16 students, while practical lectures are given to groups of 10. The weighted average for the Hotel school programme at all Tio locations during the previous academic year was 12 students per group.

Interesting projects

During the project Hotel and event week, you run your own hotel together with your fellow students. You also take part in the Event week, during which you and your team are tasked to come up with a concept for a business. Lastly, you play the simulation game, write a business plan and go on an international study trip.

Best Hotel School

This programme has been accredited by the NVAO and was awarded the title of the Netherlands’ best private hotel school for the 7th year in a row by the Higher Education Guide. The programme has also been awarded top marks in the National Student Survey (NSE) for past 9 years and in Elsevier’s “Best study courses” enquiry, the programme ranks high for several years.
