Archaeology: Archaeology of Northwestern Europe

In this Master's in Archaeology, you will specialise in one of two key European eras: Late Prehistoric and Roman archaeology or the archaeology of the Medieval and Early Modern World.

This Master's programme offers you the rare opportunity to investigate more than two millennia of European archaeology through the study of landscapes, material culture and documentary sources. Combining theoretical and thematic approaches, including opportunities practical fieldwork, the programme allows you to specialise in one of two regional archaeological eras.
The specialisation Globalisation and Interconnectivity in Late Prehistoric and Roman Europe explores the integration of Celtic/Germanic societies of the Iron Age into the Roman Empire, while The Medieval and Early Modern World focuses on the origins and developments of medieval trade and exchange, the growth of Amsterdam and the expansion of European capitalism with the colonisation of the New World.
The Master's programme in Archaeology of Northwestern Europe is one of three Archaeology programmes offered by the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA), a joint venture of the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. ACASA enables you to benefit from the expertise of two universities, and allows you to choose from a wide range of courses, interest fields, and specialisations.
